Promos?
by SummerOctober 29, 2005, 3:07 pm | In KAMN Network | Comments Off
I am putting out a call to other podcasters, asking for promos that I can play during KAMN shows.
Consider this that call.
Voicemail and audio comments also welcome… especially since I’d like to pull in different contributors to help out on future shows, based on the topic and who shows interest in chatting about it.
Show #2: Pre-show discussion
by SummerOctober 23, 2005, 9:49 pm | In Show Topics | 12 Comments
This is an open comment discussion for our next show.
Joe’s suggestion for a topic is “Stranger in a Strange Land: What’s the Big Deal?” — because his initial reading impression about this book seems to be similar to mine for Hyperion.
Since I last read the book about 20 years ago, I need to reread it, but I don’t think my reaction to it was as harsh as his seems to be.
So, you tell us: did this story move you or not? Why or why not?
Also, we’d like a couple contributors to engage in a Skype conference call (on either Oct 29 or Oct 30) so we can have a nice roundtable discussion like before. That, or plenty of comments, email, voicemail, or KAMN forum submissions.
Subscription feed problems?
by SummerOctober 19, 2005, 1:11 pm | In General | 8 Comments
Okay, the RSS:Podcast link on the website appeared to have succumbed to either seppuku or some form of foul play, but damned if I can figure out what happened.
By a show of comments, how many people had KAMN #1 show up in their podcatchers automatically, and how many had to browse here and download it manually?
The problem should be resolved now, but I am curious to see what happens when the next show it posted.
Discussion: Favorite Book Series
by SummerOctober 18, 2005, 5:07 pm | In Books | 11 Comments
Okay, this isn’t an official pre-show discussion, but I want to know what your all-time favorite multibook series are.
Feel free to comment here, but I want everyone to list 5-7 of your all-time favorite series over on the KAMN forums.
And give me a yes or a no on this one: I’m also thinking it’d save space to exclude the potential obvious favorites: The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, Dragonriders of Pern, The Earthsea Trilogy, The Heralds of Valdemar, The Wheel of Time, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Elric Saga, The Belgariad, The Mallorean, et al, simply because many people would list them. Think so or no?
To get things started, here are mine (excluding several from the list above):
The Dragon Prince trilogy and The Dragon Star trilogy by Melanie Rawn
The Matador Trilogy by Steve Perry
The Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay
The Vlad Taltos series by Steven Brust
The Acts of Caine by Matthew Woodring Stover
The Second Sons trilogy by Jennifer Fallon
And to put it out there, I feel about the Matador trilogy the same way Peter Jackson feels about the Lord of the Rings. If I had the resources and the time, this would be the one series I would commit 5 years to to ensure that the entire trilogy gets made as a one or two season TV series or an 8-hr miniseries.
Yeah, it’s that good.
New Logo

So, what do you think about the redesigned blog logo?
I was looking for a way to add a little more info on what the show’s about, without changing the simplicity of it too much, and damned if Nina didn’t come up with a cool way to do that.
Everyone say “Thank You, Nina!”
Show #1: Hyperion
by SummerOctober 16, 2005, 6:07 pm | In Books, Shows | 15 Comments
As was discussed earlier, I have had problems over the years trying to understand why there was so much hype about Dan Simmons’ Hyperion being such an outstanding novel, so I figured that’d be a good topic for a first show.
Joining Joe and myself for the discussion are Jack Mangan, author of Spherical Tomi and fight promoter for “Duel of the Fates”, and Sean Hoffman, network engineer and scifi aficionado.
