TV Shows: Night Stalker
Okay, I’ve tried to give the new Night Stalker a chance. I just watched the most recent 4 episodes back-to-back, and honestly, I’m not feeling the thrill.
Guess there’s going to be one less series on my DVR’s auto-record schedule.

It is deffinatley the Kolchak original. They feel more like investigators than the reporters they are supposed to be.
I still like it more than Surface and Invasion though.
*Edit*
It is deffinatley not the Kolchak original. They feel more like investigators than the reporters they are supposed to be.
I still like it more than Surface and Invasion though.
I guess I’m still making up my mind about it, but it does feel more like an X-Files copy rather than an homage to the original.
I mean, it even includes a quasi-supportive boss, the inability to tell anyone about or convince anyone else about the truths they’ve uncovered, and I’d bet that the FBI agent who wants to arrest Kolchak for his wife’s murder turns into the oppresive counter-force.
The stories they’ve come up with have been interesting, but the drawback so far is that I haven’t been encouraged to care one bit about the main characters, or why they do what they do.
So I may continue to watch, but I doubt I’ll care too much if I miss an episode.
I don’t think it has ‘hit it’s stride’ yet but for sci-fi type shows on commercial TV it isn’t bad either. I still like it much better than Surface. May not be as good as the original Kolchak TV movies or the X-Files but it beats most of other sci-fi options we have. Supernatural and Threshold aren’t bad but they also aren’t great either. If I didn’t have a DVR I would probably miss most of them since they aren’t that good but at least they are worth watching when you feel like it.
I enjoyed the way the original Kolchak character was on his own. No one was there helping him much less believing him, except for the neighborhood crazy person. The authorities knew some of what was happening but were hiding it X File style. The new series Kolchak has his team and support group behind him. I also liked the sense of humor in the original series.
Age alert – At the time I was watching the series on TV in school we were watching this series of science movies which also stared Darren McGavin. So during the day he was investigating science and one night a week it was science fiction.
I agree. I have watched it several times, including the pilot, and just couldn’t catch any interest at all. I suppose I am just too guilty of comparing it with the original that starred Darren McGavin. Now that was an excellent show.
Apparently Night Stalker has been cancelled. I can’t find a 1st hand source, but the show is no longer included on the list of primetime shows on abc.go.com and it’s link from the fall preview gets redirected to the front page.
Oops, “its link”, not “it’s link”. Can we get a preview button?
Nah, typos are organic. Reminds us all that we are human, not robots, and thus fallible.
That Bureau 42 site looks pretty interesting.
And this week’s Stalker episode still shows up in my TiVo To Do list… guess I’ll find out tomorrow if it’s really there or not. But it would be a Fox-like suckage manuever if ABC were to stop airing the show without resolving the cliffhanger.
Yeah, Bureau 42 is pretty good. They’ll often come out with news stories before Sci-Fi Storm or Sci Fi Wire, and the mods usually have some insightful reviews, but beware of spoilers. Most of the users leaving comments are good about using spoiler tags, but the reviews and articles themselves are occasionally spoilerific.
It’s official… tomorrow’s Stalker episode was removed from my To Do list, with the tag that “it was no longer in the program guide”.
Asshats. Then again, since Invasion is off my list also, there will be nothing on ABC for me to watch anymore (No, I don’t watch Lost). Maybe they’ll try again next year to get me to care about something.
