Welcome to Show #7!

This week, we discuss Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash.

Summer has the flu (or something like it), so Joe, Dave and special guest Jack Mangan (Duel of the Fates) talk about the novel that breathed new life into the cyberpunk genre, or perhaps set the bar too high for others but Neal to follow.

This week’s Old School Anime Reviews for Your Ears, by Aaron from Weekly Anime Review, is the long-running comedy, Urusei Yatsura!

I’ve done a little housecleaning and updating, mostly just moving the MP3’s of the shows to a different LibSyn location.

While it shouldn’t affect anyone’s feeds, you might see new downloads for the existing shows.

As always, if anyone has any problems with it, let me know.

In heading back to the bookshelf for Show #7, we’re picking a modern classic… Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash.

Admit it… for a split second, you wanted to be a Deliverator, too.

Thanks to the kind efforts of Brian Stearns, The Kick-Ass Mystic Ninjas podcast is now listed in the iTunes Music Store.

So all of you folks who wanted an iTunes quick link, tell Brian “Thank You”!

Thank you, Brian!

Now, how do I get it to use the 120×120 KAMN logo for the store? Or do I have to have Nina whip up a 300×300 one?

update: never mind. I figured it out.

KAMN Show #6: Battlestar Galactica

Welcome to Show #6!

This week, we discuss Battlestar Galactica, both the old and the new.

Summer, Joe, Dave and special guest Tee Morris (Survival Guide to Writing Fantasy) talk about the original Battlestar Galactica, the new Galactica, and a few things in between.

This week’s Old School Anime Reviews for Your Ears, by Aaron from Weekly Anime Review, is the classic ninja movie, Ninja Scroll!

There were also way too many collectibles and related goodies to go through on the show, but here’s a small sampling of what’s out there: 14 original series novels by Glen A. Larson, 4 or 5 old series magazines, 5 continuing novels by Richard Hatch, a new novelization of the miniseries that launched the new Galactica, a companion guide for the new series, a brand spanking new magazine for the new series, and too many old school toys to count. If I missed anything, let us know in voicemail or comments!

Yes, we’ve noticed that the shows have been getting longer. We’re kinda working on that.

Show #6: Pre-show Discussion

In honor of the new episodes airing on SciFi Channel, we’re diving back into the rusted golden age of scifi television to talk about as much Galactica as we can squeeze into one evening.

We’re going to focus on the original series first, but true Galactica geeks can only go so far without veering off into discussions about the new show, and perhaps even comparisons between the old and the new. It may be a long evening, since all of us want to gush about the new series, and we may have a guest geek chatting with us.

I may even get to geek about all the old school Galactica collectibles I used to have and still have.

Bionic Showdown

Anyone out there as big a fan of the bionic TV franchise as I am? I’m talking The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, and all the various subsequent TV movies and potential spin-offs, including the failed pilot for The Bionic Boy. I couldn’t get enough of that stuff when I was a kid, but they all paled in comparison to Bionic Six.

Yes, I’m well aware that Bionic Six was a crappy Saturday morning cartoon that had nothing to do with Col. Steve Austin and Jaime Sommers and Max the Bionic Dog that was afraid of fire. But what a crappy Saturday morning cartoon it was! For those unfamiliar with one of the greatest crappy Saturday morning cartoons in history, Bionic Six was about a bionic hero, Jack Bennett, who has a wife and several children, two of which are adopted. An accident on a trip to the Himalayas forces Jack to give his family the same bionic surgery that transformed him in order to save their lives. A superpowered team is born, and so is a superpowered 80s theme song.

This show had some of the best toys around: die-cast metal with clear plastic limbs to represent the ones that were bionic. Only problem was the paint would chip off—same as the Silverhawks action figures. They all felt great in the hand, though.

Enjoy the opening sequence, and please continue the reminiscences in the comments, including Who to Cast in the Eventual Live-Action Film and What Limb I Would Lop Off and Make Bionic If Given the Choice.

KAMN Website Updates

Just FYI, I’ve added a few tidbits to the Special Features page.

There’s a link to the “Flip Out Like A Ninja” music video, and one to download the MP3 of the song. Both are from the 7 Seconds of Love website. They also perform “First Drink of the Day”, which many of you might know from the Dragon Page “Wingin’ It” show. Yes, they are quite likely our new favorite band.

I’ve also added KAMN buttons and a small banner… snag and use as needed.

KAMN Show #5: The Lathe of Heaven

Welcome to Show #5!

This week, we head back to the classic bookshelves to discuss Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Lathe of Heaven.

Summer, Joe and Dave talk about this cautionary dystopian fable about the power of dreams and the possible repercussions of wanting to play God for everyone else.

We also have another presentation of Old School Anime Reviews for Your Ears, by Aaron from Weekly Anime Review. This week’s feature is Bubblegum Crisis… Enjoy!
