The discussion was great! Like Joe, I really enjoyed the book in spite of its faults. The A&E version was abominable, IMO. One has to expect some re-writing to convert books to movie scripts, but the choices made by the screenwriter for this version were -- unfortunate. Magnifying the Mannie character into something like Al from Quantum Leap was particularly pointless. Haber's underlying humanitarian motives in helping/using George were virtually absent as well. This movie managed to get the general gist of the book. It's really slow but it looks good. It's very stylized and the costuming was memorable. I remember thinking of this movie when Butterfly Effect came out. The new Lathe of Heaven is worth a watch when you really have nothing else to do. BTW I had one of those days yesterday and watched The Village. It was elegant and I actually liked it more than Signs. I liked it. It's not something that I'd want to watch over and over but it was nice. Did you notice that the movie was sponsored by Lunesta or one of those other sleeping pill companies? I recently reread a boyhood fave of mine - "I, Robot" - and found that with the exception of one story ("Liar!") it has not aged well at all. That's probably a topic all its own for a future KAMN... One other thing - do you post up advance notice of what you're going to discuss, so that your loyal listeners can grab and read the book in question? thanks!
