Show #13: Pre-show Discussion

The topic of discussion for Show #13 will be Bruce Sterling’s 1996 novel, Holy Fire.

While it’s not set in the same universe as Schismatrix (I think), it deals with many of Sterling’s favorite subjects from that story: longevity, and technology as a tool for rebirth. There’s also the possibility that Jack Mangan will drop by to chat with us on this one…

Oddly enough, Islands in the Net, the book Dave really wanted to talk about, was impossible for me to find locally. However, if I’d taken into account the delays with Show #12, I probably would have received a used copy ordered online by our next show time.

But there you have it.

Ninja Updates

Okay, gang… I think we’re back in the dojo.

I’d like to thank everyone for their patience during the past few weeks, but this is what happens when several different tech disasters converge. I don’t know if there’s such a thing as a podcasting tech perfect storm, but I think we may have come close.

We’re going to run into another funny couple of weeks, with next weekend being super-busy with the Nebula Awards and LepreCon at the same time (in addition to me working at a pro beach volleyball tournament), and the weekend after that being Mother’s Day, so we may be recording Show #13 the weekend after Mother’s Day.

Two other items of note: the Ninjas now have a tip jar. Feel free to donate shamelessly, because from time to time, we may pimp shamelessly :)

Also, David Moldawer is now officially a full-fledged Ninja. In case you haven’t heard it yet, you really need to listen to Wingin’ It Show #56 in order to experience the sheer chutzpa and brilliance that we are calling his Ninja Final Exam.

KAMN Show #12: Logan’s Run

Welcome to Show #12!

This time around, we discuss the 1976 cult classic film, Logan’s Run.

The Ninjas also share their thoughts on comparing the original film with the novel, and what the impending remake by Joel Silver might look like. None of us ever saw the short-lived TV series, so there’s not much we can say about that.

Aaron from the Weekly Anime Review has a brand new review for us, of the classic 1970s hit series Space Cruiser Yamato, which aired here in the US in the early 1980s as Starblazers.

We also present a large handful of listener feedback, via email and voicemails, so the show runs a little longer than we normally have in the past:

  • John Hook on Dune
  • Tim C on Dune
  • a LadyHawke comment
  • Bruce from Ellicott City on LadyHawke and Dune
  • Tim Scott from SC on Dune
  • a Dune super fan, complete with a reference to toys: http://www.damageready.com/dune/
  • Audio commentary on LadyHawke from Charles

Sorry about this guys, but Show #12 about Logan’s Run will be delayed a few days due to unforeseen suckage, er, technical difficulties.

Meanwhile, may I direct your attention over here to this display of bright, shiny objects?
