Show #13: Pre-show Discussion
The topic of discussion for Show #13 will be Bruce Sterling’s 1996 novel, Holy Fire.
While it’s not set in the same universe as Schismatrix (I think), it deals with many of Sterling’s favorite subjects from that story: longevity, and technology as a tool for rebirth. There’s also the possibility that Jack Mangan will drop by to chat with us on this one…
Oddly enough, Islands in the Net, the book Dave really wanted to talk about, was impossible for me to find locally. However, if I’d taken into account the delays with Show #12, I probably would have received a used copy ordered online by our next show time.
But there you have it.

Ah – now I know what’s supposed to be next on my reading list.
I like Holy Fire – - but wholeheartedly agree with Dave about Islands in the Net. I’ve named that, along with Neuromancer, City Come A-Walkin’, and Snow Crash as one of hte four pillars of Cyberpunk.
Holy Fire is not the most accessible book, but there’s lots of depth and intelligence contained within. There’s a possiblilty that I’ll drop by
.
Well, there’s nothing that says we can’t do Islands in the Net some time in the future. It’ll give me time to go scare up a copy online or something.
If you’re dropping by, does that mean I have to dust and clean up?
Check Bookmans Summer, the Flagstaff location is were I found my copy.
No need to clean up. I can appreciate a quality mess.
Thomas, could you check the Flagstaff store for us? Joe’s struck out at the Tucson store, and I struck out at the Mesa store (several visits each, too).
If you find any there, let me know?
I should be able to swing by this weekend and take a look.
Found Holy Fire in the local libary. Read it on the plane. There was a snake involved, but it was a minor character.
Now I have to find Island on the Net. . .
