Andrea rocks.

KAMN Show #16: Space: Above and Beyond

by Summer

Welcome to Show #16!

The feature topic for this show is Space: Above and Beyond, a military scifi show created by X-Files writers Glenn Morgan and James Wong for Fox Network, and likely one of the first victims of Fox Network’s habit of early killings of scifi shows with potential.

Joel de la Fuente First up, The Ninjas bring you a special treat for Show 16 — an interview with Joel de la Fuente, one of the stars of Space: Above and Beyond (technical difficulties notwithstanding).

Next, Summer, Joe and David delve into a lengthy discussion about Space: Above and Beyond… let the opinions and factoids fly.

Ninjas have been Nominated

Wow.

“The Kick-Ass Mystic Ninjas” podcast has been nominated for a Parsec Award in the “Best Fan Podcast” category.

Sweet!

Now we just have to figure out which episode to submit for consideration…

update: Apparently, for the Fan Podcast category, we have to submit a clip that contains 5-minute segments from 3 different shows, so now I get to pick three shows and edit 5 minutes from each of them into a single file.

I’m open to taking suggestions on which 5 minute chunks to pull from the “Blue Thunder / Airwolf”, “Knight Rider” and “Dune” shows.

It looks like two Ninjas will be at Dragon*Con.

Crash space was obtained, so thank you to all who responded to my call for help. Not only did I get roomspace, but Joe was also able to acquire roomspace because of all the responses.

Y’all rock. Just sayin’.

KAMN Show #15: More Than Human

Welcome to Show #15!

Summer, Joe and David reach into the wayback machine and grab an old one off the shelves: More Than Human by Theodore Sturgeon. A winner of the International Fantasy Award, this story is broken down into three novellas from different perspectives of the creation, growth and maturation of a different kind of human. Whether it’s the next step in human evolution or something else entirely is a question left up to the reader.

Aaron from the Weekly Anime Review has a review of Astroboy, the original Japanese TV series from 1963.

Listener feedback: Tim leaves us a voicemail with his theory on why the DVD of the 1980 Flash Gordon movie may have gone out of print.

Faces of Fantasy

by Summer
July 4, 2006, 8:36 pm | In Books | Comments Off

I own a hardcover copy of “Faces of Fantasy” by Patti Perret.

I bought it with some signatures already in it, with a mission in mind… to get as many more signatures in there as I could.

It wasn’t all that great of a mission… because all four cons I went to right after I bought it, I forgot to bring it with me. I kinda abandoned the mission in disappointment after that.

It currently contains the autographs of: George R R Martin, Peter David, Elizabeth Moon, Susan Shwartz, C J Cherryh, Suzy McKee Charnas, Craig Shaw Gardner, Lawrence Watt-Evans, Esther M Friesner, Barbara Hambly.

Anyone want to buy it, and try to fill up what remaining pages can be signed?

A Summer Moving Sale

by Summer
July 1, 2006, 10:36 pm | In General | 11 Comments

I asked the folks in the Wingin’ It chat room about this, and there seemed to be some interest in it, so I’ll ask here as well.

I’m going to be moving at the end of July. Don’t worry, I’m staying in the area… but it’s past time for me to clear out some stuff.

So here are some options:

1) list books, cds and possibly dvds on Half.com, and post the links here
2) give folks here first dibs on stuff that won’t list on Half, before listing them on eBay or Craigslist

Yes, I have odd stuff I need to get rid of, too, like the remnants of a coin collection, and of a baseball card collection, a wide range of posters, and some random toys. And then there’s that extra laserdisc player and a bunch of laserdiscs that need to go.

I’m really not sure what the baseball cards are worth anymore, but many of them are graded so an eBay search should give me a good idea. Is it even worth my time to look up what Griffey Jr and Bonds rookie cards are worth?

And yes, I’m keeping all my Babylon 5 cards, old school Battlestar Galactica cards, and signed Xena cards… don’t even ask :)

I also have a lot of artwork, mostly limited edition prints, and a couple of originals, that could go. I just don’t know any of the stores around Scottsdale that deal with consignments of art for sale. I’m also wondering if some of these might not sell better in Sedona or Flagstaff. I still have some research to do on that, but it might have to wait until after the move.

So, what do you guys think?

update: Okay, here’s the link to the list of items I have for sale at Half.com, and the inventory there will be growing over the next couple of weeks. As for the items that won’t list there, I’ll put them here or on my writing/personal blog, Desert Words.
