A Summer Moving Sale
by SummerJuly 1, 2006, 10:36 pm | In General |
I asked the folks in the Wingin’ It chat room about this, and there seemed to be some interest in it, so I’ll ask here as well.
I’m going to be moving at the end of July. Don’t worry, I’m staying in the area… but it’s past time for me to clear out some stuff.
So here are some options:
1) list books, cds and possibly dvds on Half.com, and post the links here
2) give folks here first dibs on stuff that won’t list on Half, before listing them on eBay or Craigslist
Yes, I have odd stuff I need to get rid of, too, like the remnants of a coin collection, and of a baseball card collection, a wide range of posters, and some random toys. And then there’s that extra laserdisc player and a bunch of laserdiscs that need to go.
I’m really not sure what the baseball cards are worth anymore, but many of them are graded so an eBay search should give me a good idea. Is it even worth my time to look up what Griffey Jr and Bonds rookie cards are worth?
And yes, I’m keeping all my Babylon 5 cards, old school Battlestar Galactica cards, and signed Xena cards… don’t even ask
I also have a lot of artwork, mostly limited edition prints, and a couple of originals, that could go. I just don’t know any of the stores around Scottsdale that deal with consignments of art for sale. I’m also wondering if some of these might not sell better in Sedona or Flagstaff. I still have some research to do on that, but it might have to wait until after the move.
So, what do you guys think?
update: Okay, here’s the link to the list of items I have for sale at Half.com, and the inventory there will be growing over the next couple of weeks. As for the items that won’t list there, I’ll put them here or on my writing/personal blog, Desert Words.

What does a LaserDisk player go for now a days?
A quick search on ebay had em going between 25-150 bucks. The higher priced ones also had movies.

That sounds about right. The one I’m getting rid of is one I bought new in 1992. It’s a tank, a Sony MDP-605, and Michael just realigned the laser. I could also include about 10-15 movies, easily.
I am wondering if my Babylon 5 laserdiscs would be worth trying to sell as a complete set, even though the set isn’t “complete”. WB never made LDs for the 3rd season, nor for the second half of the 2nd and 4th seasons.
I’ve also got some older anime that I’ve already replaced on DVD, but I’m not sure how much demand there’d be for those. The import ones, yeah, but not sure about the domestic ones.

I’d certainly be interested in seeing a list of books and posters — given how closely the KAMN choices match my own reading habits, I wouldn’t be surprised if I found myself offering to purchase a batch of things.
Plus we’re hoping to move into our own house someday soon (after 20 years of living in flats), so I could use some interesting posters.

I would be interested in seeing what possible DVDs you might have. Hopfully something on a college student budget.

I’d love to see what laserdiscs you have for sale. Especially the anime (obviously).
I say list the items and let us go nuts.

My apartment complex was sold and I have until the end of July before they tear the place down. Of course, they still want the rent money til the end of July. Sucks ass since I just bought new furniture.
I’m considering dumping…I mean donating a lot of books and videos to a libary.
Best of luck

That’s what I did when I moved to AZ, the local library loved me.

Okay, what would you guys prefer: that I list the available books, cds and dvds here, or just go ahead and list them on Half.com with a link to “my stuff” that folks can keep checking as I add stuff to the sales inventory?
I can list the posters and other incidental stuff on the website… I should I move that part over to my personal/writing blog?

Hm, I also realized that listing advance reading copies on Half don’t really work.
I may just list those here, instead.

Speaking of which, what’s the URL for your personal blog?

Desert Words. It contains a lot of personal commentary, plus updates on writing projects. It’s also home to some older writing and reviews of mine, and to several short stories by friends of mine, Matt Stover and Bob Urell, that I thought were too good to let disappear off the web because of dead links.
It’s not updated as often, mostly because I do so much with the shows, but I am making time to focus on my writing, get some more essays and stories out there.
