News: Not So Good

It took me a while to get home, and I still don’t know how to put this.

Mike called me at about 9:30, and said that the doctors said the tumor was inoperable, and it had invasively spread to too many organs to remove. They removed a large chunk of it to do more tests, and see if it can respond to and be manageable with chemo or radiation, but the results of those won’t be in for a while.

So please keep your thoughts and prayers with Joe and his dad, and we’ll have more updates as soon as they’re available.

Good wishes and positive thoughts required

This afternoon, Arizona time, Joe goes into surgery, where the those with their A-game and their scalpels are going after Kuato. Time to get that bastard out of there and to see what sort of a mess he’s made of Joe’s innards.

Mike is headed down to Tucson and he has promised to feed me and Evo information via cell phone as he receives it. I’ll in turn post things here to keep you all posted, and Evo will be posting updates at MichaelandEvo.com.

So direct all your positive energy toward Joe this afternoon and tonight. This would also be a good time to click that donation button for the Kill Kuato fund, right over there on the sidebar.

More info later.

For those of you living in the Central Arizona area, and if you happen to be free at 7pm on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, you might want to check out the CASFS Book Discussion gathering.

The Central Arizona Speculative Fiction Society is the energetic gang that brings you CopperCon and HexaCon each year, in addition to publishing the fan newsletter ConNotations.

Once a month, at The Bent Cover bookstore on 28th Drive and Cactus Rd in Phoenix, a group gathers to discuss a book, and on February 20th at 7pm, they will be discussing Storm Front by Jim Butcher, first in the Dresden Files series. On March 20th at 7pm, they will be discussing A Secret Atlas by Michael A. Stackpole, the first in the Age of Discovery saga.

If you’ve read them, or plan on reading them, go check the group out.

The most recent Kuato update

Ok, here’s where I’m at.

Just talked to my new surgeon this past Thursday. My case is still a mix of good and bad news.

The GI doc biopsied a piece of the tumor back when I had the endoscopy and colonoscopy in Dec. He came back with a diagnosis of Leiomyosarcoma. Which is very nasty. To be frank, I pretty much thought the game was over, time to move into the mountains and call it quits.

Show #25: Schedule Change

by Summer
January 11, 2007, 10:00 pm | In Ninja News, Show Topics | No Comments

Show #25 will be both postponed and changed.

Originally, we were going to talk about “Far-Seer” by Robert J. Sawyer, and since that book was a Joe selection, I really didn’t want to do this topic without his involvement. But he’s taking a Ninjas sabbatical until Kuato is taken care of, so “Far-Seer” is being put back on the shelf.

Instead, Show #25 will go out at the end of January, and the topic will be the one formerly known as Show #26, the 1984 cult classic Buckaroo Banzai. David and I will be back then with hearty discussion on this favorite (or favorite to hate, depending on who you talk to), and we may even have stunt Ninjas in on the show.

Joe said he’d post something here, himself, so I’ll let him give you the health situation update.

Show #25: Pre-show Discussion

Show #25 will be about the Robert J. Sawyer novel, “Far-Seer”.

Joe chose this one, an allegorical tale about Galileo, set in a world of intelligent and advanced dinosaurs.

You can read the opening chapters over at Rob’s website: Far-Seer

Huh. Looks like it’s Book 1 of the Quintaglio Trilogy. I didn’t know that.

Another Ninja guest spot

Yet another sighting.

Into the Dark, a podcast brought to us by H. R. Tucker and the Computer King, features Summer in the latest episode.

A discussion of Santa’s “inherent evil”, and a Computer King Arena smackdown with Summer Ninja vs The Reigning Shogun of Taiwan. Also, there were FarPoint Media casualties in his previous episode, Mur vs Michael.

Sit, Drink, then Fight.

The Lensman series

by Summer
January 1, 2007, 6:30 am | In Books | 7 Comments

Dave loves the Lensman series. He’s wanted to do that series ever since we started this show. So, should the Lensman series be read in publication order:

Galactic Patrol
Gray Lensman
Second Stage Lensmen
Children of the Lens
Triplanetary
First Lensman

or in the “chronological” story sequence order:

Triplanetary
First Lensman
Galactic Patrol
Gray Lensman
Second Stage Lensmen
Children of the Lens

What’s the consensus? Which book (or books?) should we actually talk about? Discuss here, or over at the forums.
