I kinda wish I could find one about older British SF and Fantasy.

You wish is answered: I'm the co-host of a new podcast called "British Invaders" which covers British Science Fiction Television.

Our first episode on "Sapphire and Steel" is now available at www.britishinvaders.com

Eventually we plan to cover many of the shows mentioned here.

Some Avengers episodes count as SF (e.g. the Cybernauts) but not all.

You're welcome, Alyreene!

It's funny... I've been so busy making podcasts these past few years, I only get to look around for any that might be about topics I like every 6 months or so!

So, where ever you go, there you are.

Agree about the Avengers, plus the budgets constraints always gave it a fantastical feel to me, since they were so few bystanders. There was one quote given in a scifi mag about the first few series...If you are in the shot you are in the plot, since they often couldn't afford extras.

Anyway other UK scifi series:

Blakes 7
UFO
Space:1999
Most of Gerry Anderson's puppet series (Fireball XL5, Stingray, etc) would fall into the scifi category.
Starcops
A for Andromeda
Quatermass
Catweasel (fantasy)

There was also `Out of the Unknown', which adapted many classic short scifi stories, sadly the BBC dumped many of the episodes.

Tim but either it IS or isn't SciFi. Granted it has a HUGE element of action adventure to it true, but since it does have that campy scifi as well (robots, mind control, just to name a couple) I'd have to say that it does fall under sci-fi. Granted not hard-core scifi ala B5, Trek or Star Wars, but a type of scifi none the less.

Anyhow either way you look at it it's still one heck of a show!

No, I'd disagree on the Avengers. While there where episodes that had a distinct (if campy) SF angle, the show as a whole, I think, falls more into the realm of action/adventure.

A great old-school podcast is Spaceship Radio. (www.spaceshipradio.com and iTunes). Its main content is episodes of "X minus 1", a radio show from the 50s featuring dramatized adaptations of scifi short stories.

They vary from the sublime to the ridiculous, and it's well worth a listen.
