One of the interesting things about this film is that it has Spelberg’s fingerprints all over it. Most people in fact just assume its a Spelberg film.

Agreed, Nigel. It’s very much a Spielberg film.
I’m seeing parallels with ET (young kids with metaphysical companions) and Close Encounters (families in crisis for inexplicable reasons).
It’s even got a happy ending, and I don’t think that was Tobe Hooper’s influence.
