I do agree with Hakan and Summer, I find niven can be hard to read in places. I can't believe much of it I have forgotten and strangely, for a Niven book, I am really struggling now. Either my tastes have changed or the new style of writing is really much more gripping. What I liked about it was it's at the time unique combination of hard sci-fi and a great sense of humor. I think in some ways the book was the precursor to Red Dwarf.
