TV Shows: Night Stalker

TV Shows: Night Stalker

Okay, I’ve tried to give the new Night Stalker a chance. I just watched the most recent 4 episodes back-to-back, and honestly, I’m not feeling the thrill. Guess there’s going to be one less series on my DVR’s auto-record schedule.  Read More →

Signs from the Universe

Signs from the Universe

First assignment: Listen to this week’s Wingin’ It podcast. Pay special attention starting at around time stamp 33:30… Next, after the laughing, ponder the greater meaning. Basically, it has to be a sign from the Universe, because I can’t fathom any other reason behind it. The Ninjas were meant to be a show business entity, and the Universe is offering us credit for our efforts. What... [Read More...]

Fixed version of Show #2 available

Okay, there’s a fixed version of Show #2 available, so you can download it directly (same file name)… I’m not sure how to get the feed to automagically push it out there, though… (update: I think I figured it out… new version should be pushed out now)  Read More →

100 Scariest Movie Moments

100 Scariest Movie Moments

[I meant to post this earlier, during Halloween weekend, but I didn't get back to it before leaving for WFC, so here it is now] I’d heard of the Bravo miniseries The 100 Scariest Movie Moments, but I missed it when it came out the first time around. Luckily for me, they aired it again a couple of times during Halloween weekend, and I made myself a DVD of it, sans commercials. A 5-hr miniseries... [Read More...]

Traveling to World Fantasy Con

Traveling to World Fantasy Con

Okay, by the time most of you read this, I will be on a plane headed for Madison WI, to spend four days in weather much colder than I’m used to anymore. Actually, I’ll be attending WFC 2005, finally meeting some of the authors I’ve been talking to for years, including Matt Stover. Should be a blast all around, and yes, I’ll be recording some reports, and hopefully some interviews... [Read More...]

Show #2: Stranger In A Strange Land

Show #2: Stranger In A Strange Land

As mentioned in the pre-show thread, Joe has been having problems with the science fiction classics, and the latest masterpiece he wasn’t impressed with is Robert Heinlein’s Stranger In A Strange Land. So, of course, I reread the book to refresh my memory, and remembered why I hadn’t previously reread the book in the nearly 20 years since I read it the first time. But as you’ll... [Read More...]

Old School Knows No Bounds

Old School Knows No Bounds

My old school tendencies go way beyond scifi and fantasy when it comes to entertainment. I am a sucker for a good Western movie… I’ve loved them ever since I can remember. So when I see a book like this on the shelves, I feel compelled to buy it. This one was bought more for the horse reference factor, but I also own The Western Reader, and a really obscure reference book called The... [Read More...]

Promos?

Promos?

I am putting out a call to other podcasters, asking for promos that I can play during KAMN shows. Consider this that call. Voicemail and audio comments also welcome… especially since I’d like to pull in different contributors to help out on future shows, based on the topic and who shows interest in chatting about it.  Read More →

Show #2: Pre-show discussion

Show #2: Pre-show discussion

This is an open comment discussion for our next show. Joe’s suggestion for a topic is “Stranger in a Strange Land: What’s the Big Deal?” — because his initial reading impression about this book seems to be similar to mine for Hyperion. Since I last read the book about 20 years ago, I need to reread it, but I don’t think my reaction to it was as harsh as his seems... [Read More...]

Subscription feed problems?

Subscription feed problems?

Okay, the RSS:Podcast link on the website appeared to have succumbed to either seppuku or some form of foul play, but damned if I can figure out what happened. By a show of comments, how many people had KAMN #1 show up in their podcatchers automatically, and how many had to browse here and download it manually? The problem should be resolved now, but I am curious to see what happens when the next show... [Read More...]

Discussion: Favorite Book Series

Discussion: Favorite Book Series

Okay, this isn’t an official pre-show discussion, but I want to know what your all-time favorite multibook series are. Feel free to comment here, but I want everyone to list 5-7 of your all-time favorite series over on the KAMN forums. And give me a yes or a no on this one: I’m also thinking it’d save space to exclude the potential obvious favorites: The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles... [Read More...]

New Logo

New Logo

So, what do you think about the redesigned blog logo? I was looking for a way to add a little more info on what the show’s about, without changing the simplicity of it too much, and damned if Nina didn’t come up with a cool way to do that. Everyone say “Thank You, Nina!”  Read More →

Show #1: Hyperion

Show #1: Hyperion

As was discussed earlier, I have had problems over the years trying to understand why there was so much hype about Dan Simmons’ Hyperion being such an outstanding novel, so I figured that’d be a good topic for a first show. Joining Joe and myself for the discussion are Jack Mangan, author of Spherical Tomi and fight promoter for “Duel of the Fates”, and Sean Hoffman, network... [Read More...]

Show #1: Pre-show discussion

Show #1: Pre-show discussion

This is an open comment discussion about the topic for our next show: “Hyperion: Astounding or Confounding?” Yes, there’s backstory on this one, which I’ll go into in the show. But we’re now open for discussion: what did you think of Dan Simmons’ Hyperion? Not the entire saga, just the first book, on its own.  Read More →

Show #0: Intro

Show #0: Intro

Give a listen to our Intro Show, and keep an eye open on the website for an open thread to discuss the topic of the upcoming Show #1. I’d also like to send a special thanks to Joel Veitch and his band, 7 Seconds of Love, for allowing us to to use Flip Out Like A Ninja as our theme song. Head on over there and take a look at the animated video, as well as listen to the long version of the song.   ... [Read More...]
